Method of Payment:  Checks only.  4 post-dated checks for Sept 1, Oct 1, Nov 1 and Dec 1, made out to Emily Castleton (NOT Emily Castleton Warner). Students must bring all four checks to their first lesson made in the amount of $250 each.  Checks will be cashed on the first day of each month. No exceptions.  No venmo, no credit cards, no cash. I promise it is so much easier for everyone this way.

Lesson Content:
This will be the general pattern for lessons: (Based on students needs the structure of the lesson is subject to change)

5 minute review of previous weeks practicing, questions
5 minute physical warmup period.  We will go through vocal exercises and body stretches to warm up the body and voice to sing.
10 minute skill building. We will focus on exercises, excerpts and vocal drills that build functional proficiency in any needed area
10  Song Work #1 or more skill building as needed (song work include technique and can include acting if ready and needed)
10  Song Work #2 or more skill building as needed
5 min wrap up and review of assignments for coming week

Practice:
Students are expected to practice a  MINIMUM of 3 hours a week.  If you cannot commit to this, you might need to reexamine if voice lessons are the right thing for you.  Of course, we all have that one week where we are sick or slammed with school work, etc. That’s not what I’m talking about. I’m talking about CONSISTENT, DEDICATED practicing with the intent to truly improve.  Students who do not practice will stay stuck on the same drills and exercises and songs and will feel like they are not progressing or doing anything interesting.  Students who Listen to/Watch  their lesson recording, do the assigned vocalises and song work, progress well and find great satisfaction and enjoyment in their vocal studies.

Students are required to keep a record of their practicing and show it each week upon arrival.

Lesson Recording:
Audio recording of each lesson will be made by Emily and placed in a google drive shared folder each week.  Students are REQUIRED to bring a device to record video of their lesson. Students are REQUIRED to watch and/or listen to their lesson each week.

Master Classes

Master Classes are held to give each student the opportunity to perform one or two songs they have been working in lessons.  Performing in front of peers is an essential skill to healthy vocal development. Location will be announced at a later date.  Accompaniment will be provided.

Make up lesson policy:  Only ONE makeup lesson will be given each semester for each student. Make up lessons must be completed by Dec 31.  Missed lessons do not roll over into the next term. You can miss for any reason – you were sick, you forgot, you had a conflict. You don’t have to call, you don’t have to let me know (although it is nice if you do). But only one make up lesson will be given.  You CANNOT deduct money for missed lessons. The $250 a month is a tuition fee and not a per lesson fee.  I hope this makes things clear.  There has been some confusion in the past.

Cancellation: In the event you have to discontinue lessons before the semester is up, 30 day notice is required for me to find someone else to fill your spot.

Contract:  Your attendance on the first day of lessons and the submission of four post-dated checks will be your guarantee that you have read and agree to abide by all these terms
